The Monaghan County Enterprise Board has just opened a dedicated ICT business centre on the outskirts of Monaghan Town. The M:TEK Business incubator has 20,000 square ft of space and already houses a number of small businesses including a Web design company, Dairystock.com—a dairy cattle marketing agency and D20 Ireland, a project management firm.

‘The centre has two floors, the lower of which houses the incubator units,’ says Gerry O’Toole, director of the County Enterprise Fund.

‘The upper floor is available as a single 10,000 square ft unit but can be subdivided if required.’

M:TEK is part of the Monaghan Armagh Digital Corridor Development and is twinned with a similar unit in Armagh. The ultimate aim is to link the two centres by a high speed broadband connection. M:TEK was completed with grant aid from the European Union’s Interreg II programme, Monaghan County Enterprise Board, Monaghan County Enterprise Fund (which actually owns the building), the Programme for Peace and Reconciliation, The International Fund for Ireland, Monaghan County Council and Monaghan Credit Union.

‘Our ultimate goal,’ says O’Toole, ‘is to attract graduates back to the region and improve the quality of employment in the locality.’
