NetApp has been awarded the highest LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) platinum certification for its international headquarters in Navigation Square, Cork.

The certification, for interior design and construction (ID+C) has been developed by the United States Green Building Council to recognise the most climate-conscious development projects globally. NetApp’s international headquarters are the first Irish offices outside of Dublin to have this certification.

Following a verification and review process by the Green Building Certification Inc. (GBCI), projects are awarded points that correspond to pass, silver, gold or platinum LEED certification – under which specifications, NetApp achieved the highest accolade: Platinum.

To achieve LEED certification, a project must adhere to several prerequisites and credits that address carbon, energy, water, waste, transportation, materials, health and indoor environmental quality.

James McGowan, Director, NetApp, said: “Receiving any award for our hard work as a business is an honour but receiving one that speaks to our corporate responsibility in the face of the ongoing climate crisis is particularly gratifying.

“We all have our part to play in establishing a greener future for the next-generation and this is a small contribution NetApp can make in helping us get there. We’d like to thank the USGBC not only for the award of this rating, but for their continued work to build a better tomorrow.”

NetApp’s new international Navigation Square headquarters opened in November of this year and forms part of the Cork Docklands’ ambitious regeneration project. The location serves the company’s international commercial, sales and technology operations. Its launch has expanded the company’s ability to support its global customers through a broad ecosystem of available technology, engineering, and software development talent.
