It’s official, not even Elon Musk can make memecoins work. The value of memecoin Kekius Maximus, which soared high after the deicision by the world’s richest man to change his X account name to the same, has dropped back to virtually nothing. Despite the hype and rapid price rise, the momentum proved short-lived and the currency lost value at lightning speed. This again highlights the volatility and risks of speculative memecoins.

Musk’s recent name change on X, from ‘Kekius Maximus’ back to his original name, has had a significant impact on the cryptocurrency market, particularly memecoins.

The initial shift to ‘Kekius Maximus’ caused an increase in value for related memecoins, with Kekius Maximus itself experiencing a dramatic increase of more than 6,000% in seven days. This rally was short-lived, however, and Kekius Maximus has since lost nearly 50% of its gains in the past 24 hours.

Similar trends were observed in other frog-themed memecoins, which also experienced significant price increases following Musk’s name change but were subsequently withdrawn. This volatility underscores the sensitivity of memecoin markets to the influence of social media and highlights the unpredictable nature of cryptocurrency investing.

Musk’s penchant for memecoins through his X platform is a recurring theme. Previously, he changed his handle to ‘Naughtius Maximus’ and in 2023 he adopted ‘Mr. Tweet’. His support for Dogecoin, often expressed in tweets, has also caused price fluctuations for the dog-themed cryptocurrency.

Musk’s online activities consistently demonstrate his ability to influence market sentiment and affect the value of digital assets.

The rapid rise and subsequent fall of Kekius Maximus is a reminder of the inherent risks of investing in memecoins. While Musk’s actions can undoubtedly affect market trends, investors should exercise caution and do thorough research before participating in such volatile markets.
