Among the many firms set to gain from the long-awaited rollout of broadband in Ireland’s “forgotten” areas is Clear Technology, a Longford specialist in providing IT services to small and medium businesses.
Thanks to the impending availability of broadband, and a deal signed recently with online backup provider keepITsafe, Clear Technology is offering its customers an online backup service as a way of protecting critical business data.
Clear Technology’s director, Fraser Macleod, described the Government’s National Broadband Scheme (NBS) as a step in the right direction. “With the growth in online backup as a fully managed service, we are also positioned quite favourably to capitalise on this growth market.”
The NBS will put broadband within reach of the 10% of the population still lacking such access.
Eoin Blacklock, MD at keepITsafe, agreed with Macleod’s assessment of the bright outlook, saying: “Rural Ireland is an opportunity for us. With broadband and internet access our backup solution is a viable and cost-effective alternative to many businesses in these areas.”
