O2 Microsoft and O2 have entered into a partnership in order to offer new cloud services to customers. O2’s business customers will soon be able to avail of new online services including Microsoft’s Office 365, as well as email and unified communications.

The partnership means that upfront costs of purchasing software are removed in favour of a subscription basis through O2.O2 argue that customers will benefit from a packaged offering, where the core services such as mobile voice, mobile broadband and a fixed line will be offered with Office 365. The Office 365 service is already available to a small number of O2 customers, participating in beta trials. There are plans to offer the full service to business customers later this year.

Martin Cullen, director of Microsoft small and medium businesses argues that moving into the cloud is a smart financial move for any business. Cullen stated that, “technology ceases to be a capital expense and instead becomes an operating cost allowing companies to pay only for what they use reducing overall costs.” Cullen seemed optimistic for the future remarking that, “we look forward to working with O2 to bring more of our cloud services to the market.”
