Meta, the parent company of Facebook, is looking for substantial external funding to realise its ambitions in the field of artificial intelligence. The tech giant wants to raise a total of $29 billion (€24.7 billion), earmarked for the construction of new data centres.

According to the Financial Times, which cites sources close to the matter, Meta is in advanced talks with financial heavyweights such as Apollo Global Management, KKR, Brookfield, and Carlyle.

The financing would consist of two parts. Meta plans to raise $3 billion (€2.5 billion) through equity and another $26 billion (€22.1 billion) through debt instruments.

The investment round is part of a broader strategic move by CEO Mark Zuckerberg. Back in January, he announced that Meta intended to spend up to $65 billion (€55.4 billion) this year on building out its AI infrastructure.

With this, the company aims to strengthen its position in an increasingly competitive landscape, where players like OpenAI and Google are claiming a dominant role.
