The Chester Beatty Library, an art museum in the grounds of Dublin Castle, has just implemented a €130,000 mobile multi-media solution to give visitors a richer experience during the library tour using a PDA.
After receiving a PDA on arrival, visitor are guided through the museum by the device. At each tour point, pictures, video clips, sound clips and documentation will provide further detail and background to the items on display.
The system delivers the content of the tour to PDA users over a wireless network via access to a content management database. This also allows library staff with ability to create and maintain the content from a wide variety of sources that make up tours.
Datapac and Manser installed the solution with the support of the Vodafone Ireland and the Department of Arts, Sports and Tourism.
Admission to the Chester Beatty Library is free.
