Irish get Active

1 April 2005

Sky has launched its Digital interactive TV service in Ireland. Sky Active turns a TV that is connected to a digital set-top box into a two-way communications device.

With the new service, digital subscribers will be able to play games such as Space Invaders, Worms and Super Breakout on their TV, purchase mobile ringtones, bet on sporting events, respond to quizzes, participate in TV polls, and send e-mail using a special Yahoo mail service.

In early 2003, the Sky Active service will allow users to interact with ads and buy goods and services online on the digital platform. To avail of the new service, user’s set top boxes need to be connected to a standard telephone line to make an Internet connection.
