According to a survey, Ireland is ahead of the world in terms of password security. The survey which was conducted by ESET Ireland, explored how security conscious Ireland is when it comes to our passwords. The report found that a high 38% of individuals surveyed use passwords that include letters and numbers, rather than just a simple sequence of letters or numbers.

But while only 4% of those surveyed do not know their password as they rely on their computer to store, only 10% are security conscious enough to use lowercase, capital letters, punctuation and numbers. The survey also revealed that 21% of us are still using simple words and or sequences of letters as their passwords, example: 12345, password.

In order to protect themselves from cybercriminals ESET Ireland urge users to make sure their passwords are secure by using letters, numbers and punctuation in a password and by not using passwords that are easy to guess, example: name, birth date. ESET Ireland also encourage users to use invented or purposely misspelled words as passwords, not to use the same password for several machines and to change them at regular intervals.
