Dundalk PC builder, Iqon Technologies, has launched a new notebook PC based around a Pentium 4 desktop processor. This desktop replacement-style laptop is designed for the mobile worker who requires plenty of computing power while they are out on the road.
Offering processing clock speeds of up to 2.2Ghz, the Qompanion 8000 series also promises impressive graphics with its on-board ATI Mobility 16Mbyte Radeon chip.
For comfortable viewing, the Qompanion 8000 series sport 14.1-in TFT screens.
Weighing less than 3kg, a typical notebook in the series can be configured with a CD ROM drive, DVD ROM, CD-RW or DVD/CD-RW combo drive — as well as an internal modem for Internet access. The series also supports Ethernet office networking. With USB and FireWire ports for high speed plug and play data transfer, wireless networking is also supported through an IEEE 802.11b wireless LAN PC Card solution.
The Qompanion 8000 series also includes five built-in Easy Start buttons and one button for instant checks of new e-mail received. By simplifying common tasks like Web browsing and document printing, these help users save time and increase productivity.
Industry sources indicate that in March Intel plans to launch the first Pentium 4 Mobile processors. Potential benefits include an extra 30 minutes battery life to users of three-spindle laptops based around the new chip.
