Ingram Micro EMEA gets BlackBerry distributorship

Flippin’ handy: The BlackBerry 8220 ‘flip’

Ingram Micro EMEA reports it is now an official distributor of a full suite of BlackBerry smart phones, accessories, software and technical support services in nine European countries, including Ireland, with the focus being on growth in the enterprise and SMB segments.

Ingram Micro EMEA president Alain Maquet noted that the distributor had recently set up a telecommunications division and has been extending its product portfolio “with innovative and unique mobile products.”

Last April the firm named Pierre-Yvon Mechali as executive director and GM for its telco division, Ingram Micro EMEA. Under Mechali’s leadership, Ingram set up a telecoms team to implement tailored strategies in each country. In November Ingram Micro Netherlands was named the Best Telecom & Networking Distributor for 2010 at the CRN Channel Awards in Amsterdam.

Mechali notes: “The value of supply aggregation is becoming more apparent as mobile PCs and smart phone capabilities converge.” He said the BlackBerry deal is “just the first in a series” of planned services for resellers, vendors and telco operators.

He said the distributor will augment its product line by significantly increasing its brand coverage in netbooks, smart phones.
