Bitdefender the provider of internet security solutions has released a free USB Immunizer tool to help protect against the threat of Autorun based malware. This form of malware has posed has been a significant threat to the online community for years. Trojan.AutorunINF has been the world’s leading e-threat since 2009, while Worm.Autorun.VHG and Trojan.Autorun.AET are consistently present in the global top 10 malware lists.

The new Immunizer intends to protect against these malware attacks by shielding your USB storage device against infections. Even if your storage device is plugged into an infected computer, the malware is unable to create its autorun file, thus eliminating any possibility of it auto-launching.

Catalin Cosoi, Head of Bit Defender Online Threats Lab commented that, “For several years, we have seen a significant increase in malware exploiting the Autorun technology in order to infect other computers via flash disks.” Catallin added that, “Trojan.AutorunINF has been the world’s number one e-threat since the second half of 2009. Our USB Immunizer is appositive, easy-to-use response to this growing issue. It will help users to keep both their storage devices and computers safe.”
