HP has announced a major overhaul of its business print portfolio with major updates to inkjet and laser lines, all supported by the launch of secure managed print services.

Today is all about reinvention – of HP, of our print business, of our leading print platforms, said David Ryan, general manager, EMEA, Print Business, HP.

Ryan said the launch represented HP’s biggest for 10 years.

For smaller businesses and enterprise teams, the OfficeJet Pro 8000 series has been completely redesigned compared to previous products, resulting in faster performance, lower total cost of ownership and significant improvements in manageability and reliability.

PageWide
The PageWide print technology has now been incorporated into inkjet devices, from HP’s industrial print experience where more than 140 billion prints have perfected the technology. PageWide sees a static print head that can put tens of millions of ink drops on the page per second, where the page is moved beneath. This significantly reduces the number of moving parts, improving reliability and reducing costs. When combined with developments in ink technology and device management, the PageWide range of devices enjoys significant improvements in total cost of ownership, quality, speed and now security too.

PageWide is aimed at businesses or teams of 15 and up printing around 6,000 pages per month. The devices can print up to 75ppm for colour and black and white, with up to 20,000 black and white or 16,000 colour pages per cartridge set. Thanks to major redesigns of the cartridges, HP now claims the lowest overall carbon footprint in class.

For the LaserJet lines too, major developments in toner technology, cartridges and devices have seen similar improvements in speed, cost and quality. The new LaserJet products include Original HP Toner cartridges with JetIntelligence technology enabling, says HP, the industry’s most advanced laser printing platform that offer leaner, faster, smarter options to help customers accelerate their business.

Secure MPS
This new array of devices is now better protected than ever with the introduction of secure managed print services (MPS). HP says this enhanced service reflects its defence-in-depth approach to delivering the most comprehensive device, data and document security available. HP says the Secure MPS provides security experts with the ability to help customers secure their print environment with the strongest protections available in the industry and then maintain security over time to address evolving threats and compliance requirements.

The new protections include self-healing capabilities, threat detection as well as protection, monitoring and management for the printer fleet. Data encryption better protects confidential data, while reporting is available for regulatory and compliance audits. The services is supported by security expertise to co-develop a comprehensive print security plan.

The company has also updated JetAdvantage Security Manager software, the policy-based printer security compliance solution. This enables greater visibility into what firmware updates have been applied across the printer fleet. This feature enables customers to see which of their printers are protected, including Sure Start BIOS protection, whitelisting and run-time intrusion detection. In addition, HP Enterprise printers can now be monitored for malicious activity by the security information and event monitoring, tool Splunk.

Customer focus
This portfolio overhaul is aimed at addressing the concerns of businesses in meeting their print needs. Mick Heys, vice president, European Imaging, Print and Document Solutions, IDC, said that current drivers of customer focus were costs (76%), security (73%), streamlining business workflows (72%), managing print volume (72%), and sustainability, environmental concerns (69%).

In that context, HP’s Ryan said “customers need solutions that fit within their business processes”.

“Our mission is to engineer experiences that amaze.”

“It is not just about technology, but about linking this to the evolving needs of our customers,” said Ryan.
