Radio host and rugby pundit George Hook has challenged secondary school students to Tell The Future. The story-writing competition, now in its second year, encourages entrants across Ireland to write a short story on how to power the country in a sustainable, environmentally friendly way.
The competition is divided into two age categories: 1-3rd year and 4-6 year, the winner of each will have their story transformed into an animated video narrated by George Hook.
In addition to the animated video, the winners from each category will receive an iPad and an engraved trophy, while the school of the winning pupils will receive five netbooks with branded mouse pads and t-shirts for their class. Second and third-prize winners will each receive an Amazon Kindle.
Launching the competition, Hook said: "Secondary school students are the next generation of innovators and they are not only more aware of new technologies, but also of the environmental and energy challenges we are facing today and into the future. We need to take more notice of young people’s creativity and Tell The Future gives them a nationwide platform to showcase their ideas on energy sustainability."
Tell The Future is part of pan-European initiative Future of Rural Energy in Europe (FREE), supported in the Republic and Northern Ireland by Calor Gas.
The closing date for entries is Friday, 30 November.
