Graduates show off new directions in assistive technology

Graduates the 2010 Enable Ireland Assistive Technology Training Course today lined out to showcase their innovative projects have been honoured at an event in Microsoft’s offices in Dublin.

Projects of note included Philip McKeown’s prototype wheelchair capable of moving from a sitting to a standing position, while Nadine Lattimore demonstrated technologies that can enable a young adult with a visual impairment achieve full independence.

In total 46 students graduated at the event, bringing the total number of graduates from the course to 232 after 10 years. Microsoft Ireland also presented Enable Ireland with a cheque for €57,000.

Speaking at the ceremon Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport Mary Hanafin said: “The skills acquired by the Graduates will help open up a range of opportunities regardless of the path they follow.”
