Google’s crown shows no sign of slipping, as the company retained its position as the world’s most popular search engine in June.
According to the latest research from Nielsen//NetRatings, around 2.67 billion searches were carried out in June using Google, giving it 49.4% of all web searches carried out in the month. The figure represents year-on-year growth of 31%.
Yahoo came second but still has some way to go with 1.24 billion searches, or 23 per cent of the total. Yahoo’s year-on-year growth is similar to Google’s at 29%.
Third and fourth places were held by MSN and AOL with 10.3% and 6.9% respectively. Both companies notched up around three per cent year-on-year growth.
Ask.com and My Way experienced year-on-year growth of 66% and 51% respectively, but each accounted for only two per cent of searches.
Netscape, Dogpile, iWon and EarthLink all experienced negative annual growth, clocking up around 0.5% of all searches in June.
