In recent weeks Google Earth has proven its ability to keep up with global trends through a mashup showing the spread of swine flu. Now the search engine haslaunched an application to track another, less serious, trend: the popularity of entries in this year’s Eurovosion Song Contest.

Using the Predictor gadget available on iGoogle pages, the application displays data taken from Internet searches in both timeline graph and table forms displaying to least searched-for contestants.

Updated daily, users can monitor contestants leading right up to the final and try to predict which country will come out on top. The gadget can be easily embedded on a website, blog or iGoogle page.

The gadget is available at www.google.com/eurovision where you can find the latest news about the competition and watch YouTube videos of the participants.
