Fujitsu Siemens lights on Solaris 9

Solaris 9, the latest version of Sun’s Unix operating system, is now available on Fujitsu Siemens hardware. The OS is being bundled with FSC’s Primepower server range, which run on the SPARC64 processor.

Fujistu Siemens said that the Solaris 9 operating environment combined with its Primepower products would allow administrators to prioritise available resources in their IT infrastructure while ensuring optimal uptime performance and minimised costs.

Solaris 9 has with more than 300 new features intended to boost the reliability, availability, scalability and performance of the Unix operating system.

Key features include a bundled application server, a directory server and enhancements to the operating system’s partitioning, high-availability, clustering and security capabilities.

The operating environment is better able to handle use additional CPU resources. The Primepower servers are built to be highly scalable.
