Bord Iascaigh Mhara, the Irish Sea Fisheries Board, has installed an IT system to manage, control and track the distribution of all national and EU aquaculture grants.
The Dublin-based business software provider Version [1] Software implemented the new system, having been chosen ahead of a number of suppliers. The contract involved the delivery of an Oracle database, Oracle Application Server and an internet application development tool, Oracle Forms.
These tools have been integrated into a single system that meets reporting requirements laid down in the National Development Plan. The system is run from BIM’s Head Office and is expected to improve the processing of grant applications.
BIM is the state agency with primary responsibility for developing the Irish sea fishing and aquaculture industry. BIM controls expenditure in the region of €5m every year.
Its aim is to promote the sustainable development of the industry and its contribution to the national and regional economy.
The board is also accountable to Government Departments in respect of the grants it supplies and the new system will allow for better reporting and feedback about this activity.
