The it @ cork regional network for IT professionals has announced the introduction of free membership to all final-year students of IT-related courses at Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) and UCC. According to the group, this will enable eligible students to attend its monthly information and networking events where they will have access to the latest technology trends, as well as having the opportunity to network with IT professionals and managers.

Speaking about the initiative, Michael Loftus, Head of School, Computing and Maths at CIT, said: ‘it @ cork is working hard to ensure that students are given every opportunity to engage with local firms that are active in IT and to avail of leading-edge expertise that will inform their research and course work. Ultimately, students are being helped to progress their careers within the region. We support this work wholeheartedly.’

Professor Gregory Provan, Head of Computer Science Department at UCC, said that the initiative could potentially have a significant impact on the IT industry in Cork, as it will give students a clearer idea of the breadth of the industry in the region, as well as providing IT employers with opportunities to recruit graduates from UCC, CIT and other third level institutes.
