This will be the year for Wireless LAN technologies. That projection by Ethos Technology MD Gavin Tobin is based on recent performance in Germany, where network specialist manufacturer Lancom Systems saw a 2008 revenue increase of nearly EUR*20 million on the previous year.
The figure represents an increase of over 9% on 2007 and, says Tobin, augers well for Irish players in the WLAN field. Ethos distributes Lancom equipment in Ireland.
Tobin said the growth was primarily attributable to users’ increasing familiarity with the technology, combined with the growing need for mobile access. “We have seen these global trends hit locally as new technologies emerge and wireless LAN solutions give high speed connectivity to users,” said Tobin.
Ethos, which holds exclusive rights for Lancom sales in Ireland, has so far clinched three “lucrative deals”, according to Tobin. The distributor is recruiting resellers through a partner training programme.
Tobin said: “We will definitely see an increase in wireless technology in 2009 as end users become more aware of the business benefits.”
