Green electricity supplier Energia has commenced operations at its newest wind farm at Hollyford, Co. Tipperary.
The €19 million Hollyford wind farm has the capacity to produce 9 megawatts of renewable electricity. The main body of the facility’s three turbines stand 75 metres and their rotor blades have a diameter of 101 metres.
Energia has 684MW of operational renewable electricity capacity contracted within its energy portfolio, with a further 280MW of wind farm projects currently in development across Ireland. The company is on track to supply over 1,000MWs by 2016 and has a 25% market share of the Irish wind generation sector.
Peter Baillie, managing director, Energia Renewables, said: “Energia Renewables has invested €200 million in developing renewable sources of energy, underpinning our position as Ireland’s greenest electricity supplier. Our most recent projects are at Caherdowney, Co. Cork, Corkermore and Drumloughill Wind Farms in Co. Donegal and Crighshane and Church Hill in Co. Tyrone. We are currently constructing a 20MW windfarm at Thornog in Co. Tyrone and a 4.6MW windfarm at Clondermot, also in the North.”
“We want to extend a big thank you to the local community for the support it has given this project. The development of Hollyford is a very positive step forward for renewable energy in Ireland and local support for the project is a key element to their success.
“All of our wind farm developments bring significant benefits to the local economies, including job creation, increased rates for the local authorities and improvements to local infrastructure such as roads.”
