Tesco Ireland has contracted Eircom to set up a next-generation network at a cost of €10 million to the supermarket chain.
The five-year deal will see the network linking Tesco’s 110 Irish retail and distribution sites to Tesco Ireland’s head office while also integrating with the retailer’s global IP platform in Britain.
The system, based on Eircom’s multi protocol label switching platform, will increase fourfold Tesco’s existing network capacity.
This is the second major communications contract awarded by Tesco in recent weeks. As reported in Irish Computer’s July issue, the retailing giant awarded a €125 million contract to Cable & Wireless to set up a next generation telecomms network for the supermarket chain’s British and international operations.
