Dell’s new PowerEdge servers

The PowerEdge 1650 from Dell is a tier one server with hot-plug redundant power and fans. It supports dual Intel Pentium III processors, up to 4Gbyte of memory, three hot-plug, SCSI hard drives, hot-plug redundant power supplies and fans, dual embedded Gbit network interface cards, an embedded RAID option and remote management. The PowerEdge 1650 can be used for network infrastructure or Internet applications and to run a broad range of applications including Microsoft Commerce Server. The PowerEdge 1650 also will be available as a Microsoft Windows powered or Red Hat Linux Web server appliance.

The PowerEdge 4600 features one or two Intel Xeon processors up to 2.2GHz, with a 400MHz front-side bus and support for up to ten hard disk drives for an internal storage capacity of up to 730Gbyte. Hot-plug disk drives and PCI-X slots, hot-plug redundant fans and power supplies, robust system monitoring and notification features, clustering capabilities and an optional embedded RAID card with battery-backed cache are all offered. 

Both servers are equipped with Dell’s OpenManage tools. A Dell Remote Assistant Card (DRAC III) in the PowerEdge 4600 offers customers out of band management and power-up capabilities in the event the server goes down. The PowerEdge 1650 offers the choice of either DRAC III or an optional Embedded Remote Access (ERA) feature.
