The Access Forum 2004 seminars, sponsored by Citrix Systems and hosted by DataSolutions, took place in Belfast and Dublin, with more than 60 delegates attending the former and upwards of 100 at the latter.

With the recent launch of the new Citrix MetaFrame Access SuiteCitrix , the seminar provided an opportunity to understand why organisations should be considering developing an access strategy for reducing the complexity of information access, improving business agility and overcoming industry challenges like mobilising the workforce, while at the same time reducing your IT costs.

Presentations were given by a number of Citrix personnel including: Mike McSherry, distribution channel manager for Ireland; Kevin Bland, channel sales manager, UK/Ireland; Tony Spring, Citrix product manager, and Christopher O’Toole, corporate accounts manager.

The Citrix MetaFrame Access Suite is a system of integrated products that provides secure, easy and instant access to enterprise applications and information resources and simplifies their management and deployment in heterogeneous computing environments. Citrix access infrastructure software, delivered through the MetaFrame Access Suite, is the easiest way for
organisations to build an on-demand enterprise where information is accessible from anywhere, anytime, using any device over any connection.

Delegates heard from the Royal Group of Hospitals in Belfast and the Southern Health Board in Dublin about the benefits they have achieved by transforming themselves into an On-Demand Enterprise and what they have gained by providing a consistent user experience for employees, customers, partners and suppliers and how instant access to information has improved the efficiency of
their workforce and improved their competitive edge.

Citrix Consultancy Services advised delegates on how IT managers can develop an Access Strategy for their own organisations to ensure secure, easy and instant access to information. In addition there was a technical session for those existing Citrix customers which included a presenatation and demonstration on the many
new enhanced features within the recently launched Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server 3.0 including: SmoothRoaming—allowing for a consistent experience for users on the move as they change devices and networks; Management Console for the MetaFrame Access suite which provides integration with the Microsoft Management Console; On-demand Licensing services with
improved flexibility, management, monitoring and control; SpeedScreen acceleration which increases the performance of multimedia applications and Web content such as audio, video, image and Macromedia Flash files.

Guest speakers included Jon Kane from RSA Security and Tiberius Pereira from Microsoft.
