International Academy of Computer Training, a specialist Computer Training Company, has completed the rollout of the first phase of ECDL training from the Department of Communications, Marine & Natural Resources.

The ECDL, or European Computer Driving Licence, is a World recognised standard in IT Skills and has been enthusiastically embraced by the Minister and his team at the Department of Communication, Marine and Natural Resources. Candidates from the Department have been busy training and preparing for examinations and 40 candidates are now fully ECDL Certified with a further 100 well on the way.

According to Shane Broadberry, Technical Director of IACT: ‘The Department of Marine has put tremendous effort into securing the success of the programme and the results are already paying off. Most candidates don’t realise the amount of work involved with the new ECDL syllabus—a lot of work and commitment is needed—but in the end everyone wins with ECDL Certification and their success is a real credit to all the participants.’

Employees at the Department of Communication, Marine & Natural Resources have been studying for the latest ECDL Syllabus 4.0 using study materials that were developed in-house by IACT.

Minister Noel Dempsey was very enthusiastic about the programme and emphasised that the benefits gained from the training experience will help his Department continue to improve and enhance its services to the public. The new ECDL Syllabus 4.0 also covers issues such as security, data protection and viruses.

IACT is partnered with Microsoft, CompTIA, Corel, VISIO, Quark and the ECDL Foundation to provide a wide range of certification options. IACT provide open day, evening and weekend courses as well as onsite blended e-learning programmes for ECDL training and testing.
