Camara competition offers cut-price classroom PCs

Dublin-based social neterprise Camara Ireland in conjunction with the State Street Foundation are giving three primary or secondary schools the opportunity to win technology-enabled education packages for only €500.

A total of 65 schools from Dublin City will be given a chance to apply for this support. Of these, 20 will be examined within strict parameters in order to choose three successful educational institutions.

Successful applicants will receive 20 reconditioned laptops or desktops. The computers will come loaded with Microsoft Windows XP Professional. Camara Ireland will set up and train teachers in the powerful Google Applications for Education suite of online communication and collaboration tools. Due to heavy subsidising from the State Street Foundation, the cost of this package will be reduced to just €500.

The remaining top 20 schools who were not successful will be offered a 20% discount on the normal price of a package.

Steven Daly, CEO, Camara Ireland, said: "The current education system in Ireland is broken, we are falling behind in literacy and numeracy rates. The entire system is outdated and needs to be overhauled. Camara Ireland offers a innovative, holistic and scalable solution and this competition gives the most disadvantaged schools in Dublin a chance to obtain high quality educational material and training for an unbelievable price."
