Cadcoevolution has acquired a controlling share in Automated Design Solutions (ADS) as part of a move to increase its foothold in the engineering sector.

ADS is headquartered in Cork and has business units in Belfast and Manchester. Cadcoevolution has had a stake in ADS since its beginnings in 2001, but announced its controlling share in the company in October.

ADS provides professional technical services, to the pharmaceutical, medical device & healthcare, engineering and biotech industries. It has customers in Ireland, the UK and mainland Europe and much of its product offering is based on the Rebis software package.

Cadcoevolution managing director Anne O’Leary spoke of the ‘synergy’ between the two companies. ‘We share customers and technologies in the pharmaceutical arena, but we do not compete,’ she said. ‘Cadcoevolution offers technology solutions combining software, training and consultancy; for plant and process design our product of choice is Rebis.’

According to O’Leary, the nature of the pharmaceutical industry is that there may be personnel shortages at customer sites which can inhibit the rollout of new software. ‘This is where Automated Design Solutions steps in-with a range of skilled personnel to supplement existing customer resources, or to act as a design and implementation office for the life of a project.’
