Beacon Hospital in Sandyford, Dublin is to become Ireland’s first paperless hospital within 18 months folowing the signing of a multi-million euro deal with Slainte Healthcare.

Over the coming 12 months, Slainte will be rolling out its Vitro solution, making patient records available eletronically through PC and mobile devices. Vitro has been rolled out to hospitals and healthcare institutions in Australia, UAE and globally through the charity Operation Smile, which is using Vitro in 56 countries.

Michael Cullen, CEO of Beacon Hospital said: “The next 12 months will see a transformation of our approach to electronic medical records which will give patients and their clinicians visibility and control of their healthcare outside of the hospital. Our clinical teams are excited and energised at the possibilities that this will bring. Our vision for our patients and their families, where patients have self-service access to their records and informed oversight of their own healthcare circumstances, is part of our promise to place the patient at the centre of our care model.”

Andrew Murphy, CEO, Slainte Healthcare said: “The delivery of electronic medical records is something that healthcare facilities throughout the world have struggled with… We are already in implementation mode and expect the initial phase of go-live to commence by September this year, with major gains being made across the hospital before the end of this year.”

Slainte Healthcare employs over 130 people across its offices in Ireland, the Middle East, Australia and the UK.
