Bank of Ireland hit by outages

Bank of Ireland has experienced an outage in its automated teller machine (ATM) network and online account access facilities. However, a statement issued by the bank has indicated that the outage may extend to some point of sale transactions too, though credit card transactions should not be affected.

The issue was first noted earlier this morning and the bank has apologised to anyone inconvenienced.

The statement said that the bank is “working with our IT partners to ensure that all services are reinstated as a priority”.

The outage comes only weeks after IBM won a major outsourcing deal, following the natural conclusion of a similar deal with HP.

UPDATE: An IBM spokesperson has been able to clarify that while it is currently in a transitionary period with regard to Bank of Ireland’s IT services, HP is still responsible for the management of the bank’s IT services. The spokesperson said that IBM is cooperating with the bank and other IT service partners to rectify the problem.

HP issued this statement only and declined to offer any additional comment.
