Irish systems integrator Encom has installed network cameras from Axis Communications as a security measure at Dublin’s Park West Enterprise Centre. The contract was awarded by Park West Enterprise Centre Management Company (PWEC).
The centre, in West Dublin, is part of the capital’s Park West Business Park, home to over 240 firms employing some 8,000 staff. The system, including installation of wireless communications, cost about €20,000.
The management firm contracted Encom to boost security in its car parks to help reduce vandalism, which had become increasingly costly to fix.
The system comprises Axis network cameras providing automatic day and night vision, motion detection and minimal adjustment. Axis cameras were also specified for use in specific trouble spots because of their active tampering alarm capability and the option to automatically alert a central control location if moved or obstructed.
The main benefit of Encom’s solution is that all network cameras are connected via a wireless network. Images are managed and recorded by Axis Camera Station (ACS) which offers automatic camera discovery, and uses an event configuration wizard to enable remote configuration of all units. Images are collected at 640 x 480 (VGA) resolution on motion detection only, and are stored for 20 days.
PWEC’s MD, Tom Duffy, noted: “The flexibility afforded by the use of wireless cameras allowed us to cover a large area quickly and cost effectively. We are very pleased with the new surveillance system and expect to extend it later in 2008.”
Encom MD John Morgan said: “The use of wireless eliminates the need for digging through the car parks to lay wiring, which would be expensive and disruptive.”
