Gameboy Color A.D.
For: Android
A nice Gameboy emulator for your Android handset (version 1.5 and over). It comes with a selection of games with built-in achievements, lets you log high scores and works with wiimote controller apps for an authentic retro gaming experience. Did we mention it’s free? Well it is.

For: Windows Phone 7
A simple novelty app that only a touchscreen smartphone can pull off. As you play your music the screen is replaced by an image of a cassette, complete with rotating spools. The only catch, if you could call it that, is you have to have the Zune music player or FM radio app open first.

Irish Fiddler
For: iOS
Designed as a teaching aid for children, Irish Fiddler is the brainchild of award-winning violinist Mairead Hickey. The app has four pieces to master: Kerry Polka, Maggie in the Woods and Britches Full of Stitches. Each piece comes with a tutorial, sheet music, a listening lesson and instruction on how to tie all four together in a meddley.
