Aircraft manufacturer Airbus is buying human-like robots for the assembly line at its factories. To this end, it is striking a deal with China’s UBTech, whose share price briefly rebounded.
None of the companies reported the deal on its site, but Chinese news media SCMP got the confirmation.
The exact number of robots involved is not known. What is known is that the price of such an industrial humanoid employee is around 100,000 euros. In addition, UBTech offers a robot-as-a-service model, for $5,000 a month, but there is no mention of that here.

Airbus orders UBTech’s Walker S2 (pictured), a bipedal robot 176cm tall, 70kg in weight and walks at the tempo of a human. It has dexterous hands with 11 so-called motion and tactile sensors and can hold 7.5kg in each hand and a kilo with each finger.
UBTech has already delivered some 1,000 humanoid robots, ranking the company third globally, behind Agibot and Unitree. Western manufacturers in this segment include Figure AI, Agility Robotics, Tesla, Apptronik and Hyundai subsidiary Boston Dynamics.

UBTech aims to make 5,000 industrial robots this year, double that next year. The Shenzhen-based company works for car factories such as Geely, BYD and Dongfeng, logistics centres and for the government (border posts between China and Vietnam), among others.

At electronics fair CES last week, robot maker Boston Dynamics showed off its latest offspring Atlas, also a intended industrialist.
PostNL is holding experiments with delivery robots to support human parcel deliverers. After the initial testing phase, the parcel delivery company will set the frameworks within which it can scale up new technology.
