Microsoft has begun a new campaign to help businesses confirm that their Microsoft software is legal.

The company recently launched an information tool, www.howtotell.com, which allows users to check the authenticity of the software. About two million users from around the world visit the site each month, and Microsoft hopes that it will help decrease software piracy in Ireland. According to recent research by the Business Software Alliance (BSA), some 42 per cent of software used in this country is pirated.

The site also has advice for those users who have any doubts about the authenticity of their software.
