The Jukebox Zen Xtra has a larger display and offers increased storage capacity with room for up to 16,000 songs in MP3 or Windows Media Audio format on its 60Gbyte hard disk. The player has an extra-large, cool blue backlit LCD, with icon-based interface and scroller control, which allows the user to navigate through their favourite titles to compile and edit playlists with ease. The rechargeable and removable lithium-ion battery provides up to a massive 14 hours of continuous operation and downloading tracks is made fast and easy by the USB 2.0 connector, which offers transfer rates of up to a song a second.
Also bundled is Creative MediaSource – a ripping and archiving program that enables users to create digital music libraries that can be transferred to the system. The Jukebox Zen Xtra is also the first Creative Jukebox player to include Nomad Explorer – an application that supports the drag-and-drop transfer of music and data files. Another application – AudioSync allows for the uploading, downloading and synchronising of music between multiple PCs. The ‘Find’ function allows users to locate tracks in seconds using alphabetical input. Music is indexed by ID3 tag information and conveniently categorised by genre, album and artist, so it’s always easy to find. Music enhancement tools include Smart Volume Management, which matches volume variations across MP3 tracks. Users can choose from the pre-set equaliser settings, such as ‘living room’, ‘jazz club’ or ‘theatre’ and can create their own using the four-band custom equaliser. Other settings also allow users to create their own profiles for screen savers, idle timers and more. The ‘Sleep Timer’ and ‘Wake to Music’ modes add convenience whether users are travelling or at home.
