X rolls out audio and video calls to all users

X ower Elon Musk has made no secrets of his plans to turn the platform into an ‘everything app’ in the mould of China’s WeChat. Now he’s getting one step closer to that vision with the international rollout of audio and video calling. The feature had been trialled with Premium subscribers since last year, but X is now making it available to more users.

The plans were confirmed by the company’s CEO Linda Yaccarino.

Soon everyone will be able to make and receive calls using the X app, not just those who pay. The feature is built into direct messaging and works similarly to other apps that support calls, such as WhatsApp and Instagram.

What’s next for the app? Musk has already announced that there will be a dedicated mail service called X Mail. No details are yet known about that.
