WLAN on the green

The Shelbourne, one of the Dublin’s most famous hotels has recently been fitted out with a wireless (WLAN) network. The network, based on technology from IBM and Nokia, provides guests at the Shelbourne with access to high-speed broadband Internet using either their laptops or handheld computers. To use the service, guests are required to purchase an O2 zone card at the hotel reception which allows them to get access to the network.

The introduction of Wi-Fi technology at the Shelbourne gives guests access to a secure, fast and convenient way of linking back to both home and office whenever and wherever they are working. It also shows how wireless technology can be used to bring the IT infrastructure of historic places like the Shelbourne into the 21st century, with zero impact to the structure of such an historic building.
