Iconic media player Winamp is entering into a strategic partnership with Deezer to launch its own premium music subscription. The streaming service will provide its white-label technology and global music catalogue for this purpose. The new subscription service will be integrated into the next generation of the Winamp Player, which is scheduled to appear in the first half of 2027.
The revamped Winamp Player is intended to set itself apart from existing streaming services by bringing together different audio sources in a single application. Users will not only gain access to the premium streaming offering, but also to their local music library, Internet radio, podcasts, personal cloud collections and other audio sources. In addition, Winamp promises a customisable interface, social features and new ways to discover and organise music.
According to Winamp, the aim is to reinvent the music player for the streaming era. The company is targeting not only new users, but also the existing community. The classic desktop version of Winamp, which the company says is still used by more than 40 million people, will also gain access to the new premium subscription, which runs on Deezer’s streaming infrastructure, after the launch.
In the coming months, Winamp plans to announce more details about the new player and additional features. The official launch is scheduled for the first half of 2027.
