With the launch of its new 802.11g Wireless USB Adapter, US Robotics has removed the need to open the case of a desktop computer to connect it to a home wireless network. Retailing for EUR79.99, the USR805420 simply plugs into a USB port. Since it is powered by the USB connection, this adapter doesn’t require a dedicated power supply. The company claims that its latest firmware upgrade and driver update is capable of boosting wireless bandwidth performance from 100Mbit/sec up to 125Mbit/sec in best conditions.
By early June, the 125Mbit/sec upgrade will ship with all US Robotics’ 802.11g Wireless Turbo products. However, the company will support its existing 100Mbit/sec customers by offering a free firmware download available from its website. The firmware upgrade applies to its 802.11g Wireless Turbo Router, its 802.11g Wireless Turbo Multi-Function Access Point, its 802.11g Wireless Turbo PCI Adapter, and its 802.11g Wireless Turbo PC Card for laptops.
