Vodafone has launched a new mobile internet service with content partners including eBay, Google, MySpace and YouTube.

According to Carolan Lennon, consumer director, users will have access to popular applications including EBay and social networking sites, with a pricing structure designed to encourage usage. “For 99c a day, you can use up to 50Mb on your phone. That’s around a 1,000 web pages, that’s 75 minutes of YouTube downloads,” said Lennon. Accepting that that parents might be worried about a full Internet experience on a mobile phone Vodafone have introduced SafetyNet, a filtering service designed to take into account teens and younger users.

“Parents may be comfortable with their children having access to their social networking sites,” said Lennon. “But still want to block access to other content. So we have introduced another category where they can have limited access that the parents are comfortable with.”

To encourage uptake Vodafone has dropped the price of the Nokia N70. Now available for EUR*149 prepay, and EUR*79 post-pay, the N70 is ideal for the rich interaction promised by the service.
