Aimed at home users and small businesses that require technical support for out of warranty PCs, PC Hotline is an innovative new service. A private company, PC Hotline charges a premium rate of €1.50 per minute to consumers and business customers who wish to access support.

Manned by six technical support representatives, the hotline is open from 8am to 9pm Monday to Friday and from 10am to 2pm on Saturday. Any problems that cannot be resolved over the phone can be passed to a local computer reseller who can visit the customer’s site to fix the problem, although these rates are considerably more expensive.

John Kelly, managing director of PC Hotline, estimates a call out rate of €120 for the first hour and €70 for each additional hour in the Dublin. He also estimates that it will be less expensive outside of Dublin.

Despite the premium rate, Kelly says that computer users can expect a fast phone response to their query and no charges for holding on the line waiting for a support rep to become available, as the line tone will be engaged if one is not free. A self help resource is also available at www.pchotline.ie
