The recent trend toward mobility and work being something you do as opposed to somewhere you go has had a knock-on effect for some people that may not have been quite so anticipated.

There are now legions of workers who find themselves looking for somewhere to work that is not a bedroom, garage or garden shed, that might be close to, but not in, a client premises, sector hub or digital community. These workers are often freelancers, but sometimes just on secondment for a particular job or contract.

To facilitate such people, coworking spaces have emerged that provide a range of services over and above a space to work that range from broadband and kitchens, to meeting spaces, collaborative tools and meet-ups.

One such space is operated by industry veteran Barry Alistair in Trinity Street, Dublin 2. Tcube Dublin is based in a former bank premises and so offers many of the benefits of that requirement, chief among them being security and connectivity.

Centrally located, with easy access to north, south and westbound public transport, as well as the airport, Tcube offers desk space, fibre broadband, Wi-Fi networking, reception and concierge services. There is a well equipped kitchen, and for those of either a health or working late and starting early bent, fully-equipped shower facilities.

However, given Alistair’s background in the IT community as the force behind IrishDev.com, he is only too aware of benefits of community in the tech space. As such, while privacy and isolation are possible, there is also the opportunity to meet, cooperate and collaborate with fellow coworkers on specific projects or just to share experiences and network.

The web site for Tcube shows the spectrum of people who use the facility, with a freelance iOS developer, a web apps developer, freelance ‘Pythonista’, freelance web front end developer, freelance security developer and a digital marketing guru, among many others.

Alistair said that there is often cross pollination, and the coworkers can provide supports for each other, as well as Alistair himself facilitating introductions where appropriate and connecting the right people.

“Tcube’s coworking space is designed to help entrepreneurs and start-up teams get their businesses running professionally without the high cost of owner-occupier office space,” said Alistair.

There is an emphasis on simple transparent charges too, with a flat €250 per month including a dedicated desk, 24 x 7 access to the facility, fibre broadband, desk storage, meeting room use, coffee and of course, a happy community.

There are also options for €25 per day on a hot desk basis, with a half day option too.

Optional services include onsite secure data centre, own use private fibre/Wi-Fi, postal service, business address and own desk phone and number.
