Scansoft has launched the latest edition of its industry standard voice recognition program — Dragon NaturallySpeaking 7 Professional. Scansoft promises a 15 percent improvement in performance over version 6 resulting in accuracy levels as high as 99 percent. With version 7, users can convert speech into text at speeds of up to 160 words-per-minute, over three times faster than the average typing speed. New in this release is support for array and wireless microphones, which eliminates the need for traditional headset microphones that tether the user to a PC or laptop with a wire. Users can now also dictate into a Microsoft Pocket PC-powered handheld and have their recordings automatically transcribed by Dragon NaturallySpeaking when they synchronise their handheld with their PC.

The application also speech-enables Microsoft Windows applications, allowing users to control menu items, input text and data, and control cursor movements simply by speaking. And as the only PC dictation product available that allows for the complete hands-free use of the PC on all commonly-used Windows operating systems, Dragon NaturallySpeaking can benefit people who suffer from repetitive stress injuries and other disabilities.
