3Com’s new 11Mbit/s Wireless LAN PC Card has five new features including a retractable XJACK antenna and enhanced software capabilities for security and usability.

The XJACK antenna with smart switch allows the PC card to go into power save mode to preserve battery life when the antenna is retracted. It provides clear reception when the antenna is extended.

The card’s autonomous load-balancing feature monitors traffic across available access points and can select the access point with the best available bandwidth.

The card also has features to make wireless connections in the enterprise secure. These include compatibility with 40- and 128bit Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP), 802.1x, EAP-MD5, EAP-TLS and 3Com’s unique Dynamic Security Link and Serial Authentication.
