Provident CRM, SugarCRM’s partner in Ireland, has announced the release of Sugar Express, which it describes as a low-cost, on-demand offering for small businesses and personal use. The firm says Sugar Express answers the demand by SugarCRM open source users for an affordable solution that is managed and supported by the firm’s Sugar Open Cloud on-demand platform.
Sugar Express provides core sales, marketing, and support features, plug-ins for Microsoft Office, and access to customer support.
Platform functionality includes Module Builder to create custom modules and applications and Cloud Connectors to integrate third-party data service from companies such as Hoover’s and Jigsaw directly into SugarCRM. Sugar Express is offered as an annual subscription at $499 for five users per year or $799 for 10 users annually.
The introduction of Sugar Express and the Sugar Open Cloud is a result of two forces converging: open source and on-demand computing. Over 60,000 businesses and 550,000 users rely on SugarCRM to manage customers and, since 2005, SugarCRM has invested heavily in its on-demand architecture to deliver its products as a service while preserving the principles of flexibility and customer choice.
SugarCRM CEO John Roberts notes: “For all its promise, the cloud computing movement is in danger of becoming yet another mousetrap to lock-in customers to proprietary vendors.” He said Sugar Express and the Sugar Open Cloud “marry the seamless maintenance and deployment of on-demand computing with the values of open source: openness, portability and flexibility.”
