The midst of a recession might not seem like the best time to launch a business, but for one Irish start-up, doing so seems to have been an inspired decision. Dublin-based Inspired Software and Services specialises in designing business productivity solutions for SMEs.

The firm was set up in September 2008 and now, despite the economic downturn, is on target to turn over EUR*500,000 in its first trading year.

Inspired’s founder are Eamon Breen and William Connor, both are former Microsoft employees with a combined experience of 40 years in the Irish IT industry.

Recognising a need in Ireland for customised business productivity solutions for small and medium firms, Breen and Connor began their research. They saw the clear development of such solutions in the US and in Britain, and realised it was only a matter of time before the trend hit Ireland.

Inspired SS now offers productivity solutions such as Share Point and BizPortal, both of which are designed to help SMEs reduce their IT spend and increase bottom line efficiencies.

Breen, who is managing director at Inspired, notes: “I feel our initial success is down to price competitiveness and the clear value the solution can give customers.

Inspired is based in the Docklands Innovation Park after being accepted into the DIT Hothouse programme. The firm has grown steadily and the team has partnered with Microsoft on the launch of a new service, Microsoft Business Productivity Online Standard Suite.
