Irish Spotify users can leave their IP blockers alone from today as the service finally goes live in the Republic.

Launched in October 2008 in Sweden and with a corporate base in London, Spotify allows users to stream music across desktop and mobile devices, create playlists for sharing and download exclusive content. It also has a number of partnerships with media such as Rolling Stone, The Guardian and Pitchfork.

The service is accessed through either a desktop client or mobile app where the user first creates an account or uses a Facebook or Twitter ID.

Spotify’s revenue model is based on three tiers starting with an ad-supported free option streaming 10 hours worth of content per month, a, ‘Unlimited’ option with unlimited streaming and no ads for €4.99 per month and a ‘Premium’ package which adds exclusive content, improved sound quality and an offline mode for €9.99 per month.
