Speedy Turbo bounces into action

Boing! Yes, the OCZ ATV Turbo USB Flash drive really does bounce. Its shock-resistant striped yellow-and-black rubber casing was simply too tempting to resist, so we hurled it against an office wall. Not exactly a scientific test, but it proved a point.

Now that we’ve got that off our chests, there’s little else to be said about a 4Gb memory stick. Time was when storage acreage was enough to make a Flash drive stand out as the new kit on the block. But technology has moved on, and now we routinely see these devices do ever fancier tricks, such as picking up DTV signals or connecting wirelessly.

So one differentiator is speed. As the Turbo in its name suggests, this device is no slouch. The OCZ spec sheet claims read speeds of 33-35MB/s and 26-30MB/s writing. If true, this makes it one of the fastest flash drives yet. Hmmm . . . so that’s what the stripes do!
