Sony Ericsson launches assault

Phones that look like cameras and do-it-all devices — Sony Ericsson is launching an assault on the Irish market and it intends to make its presence felt.

The new range includes the K500i, which resembles a camera from one side and a mobile from the other. It’s simple to shoot and send images with the phone, and you can even use it to capture video. The camera has a 4x digital zoom and is activated by opening the lens shutter.

Its large 19.in 65k colour TFT screen is ideal for images, video or games; the MultiAction joystick and 3D graphics engine make gaming a smooth, fast-paced experience. The K500i has 12Mbyte of internal memory, with enough space to store up to 170 2D or 35 3D games. It can also be customised, with ringtones, wallpaper and themes; you can download new tones or create your own with the four-track Music DJ application.

The Music DJ application is also included in the T630, which is the first Sonyphone to include the My Friends application. My Friends is an enhanced messaging facility that lets you choose from your list of contacts and pick how you want to contact them — SMS,
MMS, email or chat.

The T630 also comes with racing game V-Rally2 preloaded; other games can be downloaded, with both Java and Mophun platforms supported. The tri-band phone also includes Bluetooth as a connection option. If you need a bit more than usual from your phone, the P910i smartphone combines a mobile and PDA, giving you access to your e-mail and the Internet while you’re on the move.

The smartphone has a fold-out thumb keyboard that makes it easier to type long messages, and the touch-screen interprets your natural handwriting into text when the stylus is used. A five-way jog dial helps you navigate the phone’s menu quickly and easily.

One of the most impressive phones in Sony Ericsson’s line-up is the S700i. A 1.3Megapixel CCD digital camera has been built into the phone, allowing you to take high-quality pictures with your mobile. The 2.3in 262kTFT colour screen is excellent for displaying the
images, and the phone’s memory can be extended with Memory Stick Duo memory cards. The S700i has Bluetooth wireless functions included with the package.
