SMC connects PC to TV

Aimed at home users, SMC Networks has launched a new device called the Wireless Media Server. It sits between your PC and TV or HiFi and allows you to transmit MP3 music and other digital audio and video data directly from your PC to your stereo and television, all by remote control. This product was developed by SMC in a joint venture with Philips.

The Media Server offers MP3 control and playback on standard audio systems in the home from a PC. It also supports Internet streaming content including Internet radio on a standard AV system via a PC or router with a DSL connection; Digital photos control and playback from a networked PC or online source and video control and playback/streaming on TV from a networked PC or online source. The device supports the 802.11a, b and g wireless networking standards and supports MPEG1, 2, and 4 video decoding. It can also transmit still pictures wirelessly from a PC to a TV screen. The SMC Wireless Media Server retails for EUR250.
